That one for $1800 is a steal!!

Maxdave

P.S. I use my 1D4 more than the 5D3 myself, unless I have to carry it a long way ... then I think again.

M

It is a steal, and hearing that from everyone here...I'm really thinking i should just go grab it. I understand the size issue. I had my 5D3 gripped, but took the grip off to lighten it up, plus I find it easier to handle minus the grip, which probably puts me in the minority.

Here I was testing the 1D4 and 300 2.8 IS with the 2x III TC. The images aren't the best, but I was just doing some testing. I did no AFMA, so I can imagine if I tune fine tune the AF that this would be a formidable combination that I see so many photographers use. I need to spend some time getting this combo tuned.

Note: No noise reduction performed on these images.

Looks great and high ISO too! I love my 1D4 and I have this lens as well. I think we both have this lens and the 600 II. It makes a nice combo.

I have had the 1DMK4 for six months and the body is awesome,I paid $2500 Au which at the time was $2100 US ,the former owner is the current winner of Australia and New Zealand
nature Photographer of the year,he asked me during the course of the sale whether I took any Bird shots. I replied that I shot some seagulls and pelicans and the odd bird in flight
I suppose any thing that appealed to me, so he sent me this link: http://wildlife-photography-school.com/ (external link) the front image is the current winning image and it pretty special.
since then I have shot some special to me images of a consistent increase in quality ,sharpness and image size in comparison to my 1DMk3.
Yesterday I took out the 1D M k4 and the 400 F4 DO with a 1.4 converter and went to a wetland ended up taking just under 1000 images in 1.5 hrs came home uploaded them to light room
and 80% were sharp as a tack and the biggest issue is to many keepers! culled it down to 350 images and now will process the rest and finally keep the best 50 is my aim.
I used a mono pod with a Gimble head and it works a treat.:-)

Did some processing here are 4

I had grips on all my 5D2s and 3s but after getting the 1D4 I'm down to just one 5D2 and I grip on it. It's so small without the grip and I like it that way. Plus it all fits in my bag without a grip on it.

Some good prices for a 1D4.
Couple on the uk forums with 20k shutter selling for £1500 so $2200

That's a bargain. I paid £1400/$2100 for mine with 21k just in April. I'm off to New York for my honeymoon in June next year so may have to bring some new camera home with me

Here is probably the first decent bird image I took which is now almost 3 years old. I kept the RAW file so I was able to reprocess it today to (hopefully) a better standard than I originally managed. It shows a Kestrel hovering over cliffs, looking down on potential prey below. The BG is a rough sea. Taken with my 1DmkIV which was almost new at the time and my 400mm f/5.6L lens:

And what a shot it is, Mark. I was getting shots similar to that with my 7D2 when I first got it.... though in my case, the targets were much slower... Osprey and Pelicans. We have something akin to a Kestrel patrolling the fields near where I work. Since it's cooled down here a bit, I'll be able to take my camera and leave it in the car without it melting.

I'm hoping to see great results with the 1D IV. I know the camera is capable and I think I am, too. ;).... Rain the next 4 days in a row so I'll have to wait another week before I can get out there for any time.

Mark, thank you and so many others in this thread for giving me a path other than the 7D2.

Thanks Kim. I bought my 1DmkIV about 3 years ago, in fact just as it was going out of production. I took a chance then based on a lot of positive advice about the camera I'd read on here, especially from bird photographers. I can honestly say that I've never regretted buying the 1DmkIV, it's never let me down. I really ought to get out with it more often.

Night before last coming home has been one of the very few times that the highest ISO has been actually used. Two packs of Wild Dogs! For small web use and our lodge Facebook Page it was certainly better than not getting a shot.
