Where do you live Kevin?
I want to move there..
Or you have some secret ability to make any bird pose for you...
:-)

Fantastic pictures as always.
I am envious..

Thank you. I live in Brisbane, Australia but if I post an "unidentified" Pic, it will be of a non-native, captive bird although I do have a good selection of natives that visit my garden and are becoming fairly accustomed to me, although they aren't posing as of yet :-)

The above "unidentified" birds are from Maleny botanic Gardens which has a huge (high netted) aviary and even with this lens, it's hard to fill the viewfinder with some of the smaller birds. The bigger birds are absolutely manic and you risk life and limb going in there and are given a warning before you do. At one stage a Macaw latched onto my ear and drew blood! Another had me going arse over tip as it had latched onto my shoe lace without me knowing...............an interesting outing :-)

These are large crops of some of the smaller non-native birds

I'd give that a tick.

Is that a juvenile night heron?

Mate, colour ain't everything. Your pics are wonderful and always have that "national geographic" look.

I just wish that I could do something with the reds. Detail always seems lost with reds?

If I'm trying to capture details in strong red or yellow subjects I'll often drop EC to -1 in an attempt to prevent the red and green channels from overexposing. Then during post I'll play about with the red channel (Lightroom or Capture One Pro) to keep it down while lifting the overall exposure.

It's a juvenile little green heron--seen at a canal across the street from our home in Miami. The water attracts all sorts of water oriented birds--herons, egrets, ducks, coots as well as reptiles and amphibians. A protracted spell of cold weather 5 winters ago allegedly killed all the iguanas all over the county-but they have staged a colorful resurgence-which isn't terribly good news for many of our native species on whom they feed...

Used this for the first time today with the 1.4x extender.

Both significantly cropped, really happy with the quality! not much different to my old 500f4

No 1 and 4 are male Southern Red Bishops in breeding plumage.. Very common bird here in South Africa.

I have no clue what No 2 and 3 are though!

The remarkable photos keep rolling in, awesome work everyone!

It's been raining here almost every day since I got this lens :-( Can't wait to get an interesting subject in front of my camera in good light!

Gotta agree with you Frank it is a great lens; and yes, pretty close to the 300 2.8 IS II. The two of them make a great Airshow combo.

I haven't used it much to be honest, had a break down of my relationship after 7 years and don't feel much like using it. Its gotten me some amazing photos today though, I'm really impressed with it in this dull weather, I've just purchased a 1DX so ill be looking for a new lens, ill need to decide what to do.

Why hasn't this thread been merged with the Lens Sample thread yet?

It's been overcast and raining pretty much since I got this lens... how ironic. Trying to get out and shoot some decent photos, but it is so dull outside :-( I definitely am ready for a 1.4x converter!
