In know people with both the 5Diii an 6D and they are happy with their choice JD and Cindy both went for the 6D when they upgrade last year as after trying one of each over a weekend the found for them the IQ was better on the 6D.
I've used a 5d3 and was very happy with it I'm very tempted to upgrade to one over the 6D mainly due to focus points as I find the diamond pattern of the 6D restricting with what I do but having said that they are both great cameras.
This is straight of a 5D3 no editing shoot in natural light.

I have had my 6D for 3 years it is basically the 5 II sensor and processor, it is very light in weight, the view finder does not give you 100% view (think is around 95%) the GPS works reasonably well. Some people will say but only has 11 AF points but I only ever use one the centre one which is extremely good in low light its ASO can go fro 50 to a stupidly high number I am quite happy with it a 1200 ISO and even 2000

Thanks for the feedback. Based on that I'm probably leaning towards a 6D then. Still awaiting a quote from Canon service centre, but I'll likely get the 5D2 fixed then sell it off to fund a 6D. The 5D2 sensor is rubbish - noise means its pretty much unusable from ISO 800 upwards, though if I've just had a sensor failure, then perhaps that was the cause of the noise. Who knows...

I have a 5d mkIII and love it. Have recently done some show photos for my daughters dance school and was shooting at 6400 and 8000 iso.

With a touch of noise reduction in lightroom they are very usable images. The extra sensor points come in handy when focus tracking moving objects.

Not used the 6d, but I know people who have it got it because the difference between the two was not enough to justify the extra cost.

Oddly enough i'm thinking of picking up a 5D MkIII too.. not having any issues with my 7D just seem to be taking less pure wildlife pics and much more 'general' shots.. here's one of my dogs taken over Christmas.. bless them..

I went to a 40s party - decided in advance to go for black and white for the whole shoot. Really fun and loving the B&W way more than I expected.

For me I've been busy urbexing and finding new locations in France to photograph. You'd be amazed at what the French leave behind just to rot - this one from a farmhouse that is due to be demolished soon:

Anyway, to a technical question. My 5D Mk II suffered a catastrophic error last weekend - Error 30, which according to the Interweb means a shutter or sensor failure. Turning it off and on again, as the camera suggests, didn't work (surprise!), so I'm weighing up a new body option. Does anyone have an experience with a 5D3 or 6D? The 6D looks the most attractive option - lighter weight seems to be a plus but doesn't have 51 AF points or 6fps. For what I do, the focal points might be more useful, but not sure if the extra few hundred quid is worth it. If anyone has any thoughts, please let me know.

I'm inquiring about the cost of repair so may just end up with a repaired 5D2, but it would be worthwhile doing the theoretical exercise anyway. I've been a bit unhappy with the 5D2 low light capability so an upgrade may be on the cards regardless.

5D3 all the way IMHO. I borrowed a 6D when mine went in for a service (nothing wrong but got the offer to have it serviced and calibrated for nothing so took the offer) and while the 6 is good, the 5 is a huge leap in ISO performance and focus.

Lovely images. Colour for me. I'd have a go at editing the catchlights in her eyes, they look a bit funny to me.

Thanks Martin, the catch lights look like that because the lighting was a single light with a beauty dish and grid on. It's a very tight contrasty directional light I like it especially for black and white.

I don't know why, but I do seem unusually bothered by reflections of unnatural looking lighting in eyes particularly
