I'm kinda intimidated to post, but couldn't help myself, it is a great picture.

I went for something of a Ansel Adam-esque look.

nice image to start with...

i opened the raw in dynamic photo HDR to do some tone mapping, and then brought it in photoshop to add some contrast, and crop it, resize add a lil USM...only reason for the crop was to show something different

It is decision day! We've still got time for a couple more entries . . . I'll give it another hour or so. :)

This is going to be really, really, tough.

Okay. I've made my decision, and it was really, really tough. I can honestly say that I liked each and every one of the edits. I loved the crops, the b&w, the creative use of colour, and the details.

To make my decision, I download each of the edits and created a slideshow with them in iMovie. I wanted to find the one image that would inspire me to get back out to that location to shoot it at a better time of day (I can be at the top of Sulphur Mountain in two hours from where I live).

I had to watch it several times, as I found that I had a really strong emotional reaction to two of the images. I had a hard time deciding between them. Ultimately, I found that one of the images spoke to me just a tiny bit more.

Congratulations, Mark (rrblint) you're the winner:

A special mention goes to timd35.

It was really close . . . and I would have called a tie if I could, but that would mess up the whole format of the competition.

I'm glad some of you have really enjoyed working with this photo . . . with the Canadian dollar in the tank this might be a great summer/fall (I think fall is best) to come to the Alberta Rockies for a photographic expedition. ;)

Before and After - The Weekly Editing Challenge
...now compiled into a single, easy to locate thread, that can be added to your subscribe/follow list!

Rules are simple:

  • Download the image file from the current week
  • Contestants will have 7 days to edit the image and post their edited version to the thread (as many entries as you wish) The owner of the original image will choose a winner
  • The winner will copy & paste this post and include a new downloadable image link
  • The new image must be unedited / SOOC (straight our of camera), full-resolution, and in a RAW format, ie. CR2, DNG, TIF, etc (Dropbox works well for uploading and linking these large files)

The purpose of this game is to be creative and learn new editing techniques. You must give some insight into exactly how you went about editing the image. For example, increased shadows sliders, reduced highlights, local sharpening, white balance adjustment, specific filters used, tone curve adjustments, etc. Comments and/or questions regarding the edits are encouraged.

Okay HERE'S THIS WEEKS CHALLENGE (external link)

This is a scene from a local park. See what you can make of it. Good luck to all!
