Any recommendations for the smallest bag that can fit just a 5D Mk2 + a 70-200 2.8? Ideally including the grip for the 5D mk2 as well.

I have a Lowepro Toploader Pro 75, which is a perfect fit for gripped 6D (same size as 5D2) with 70-200 2.8 (or 100-400).

Cheers, Damien

toploader 75 for a gripped system or think tank digital holster 30 (non gripped) and digital holster 50 (gripped).

The advantage of the lowepro is that it has a ton of pockets. The advantage of the think tank is the beautiful looks and popdown, which allows you to shoot with hood mounted. I have had both, and sold off the lowepro to get the think tank. That popdown system really wins it for me. Much more practical, although the pocket system of the lowepro was much better.

Think Tank Digital Holsters are nice I use the 30 V2.0 for my 7D MK II + 100-400mmL II with the hood on. The 50 V2.0 is made to hold the 1D and 1Ds series with the 70-200 f2.8 w/lens hood.

The Think Tank Photo Digital Holster 30 V2.0 is designed for regular size DSLRs such as the Canon 5D Mark II, 7D, and 50D or Nikon D700, D300s, and D90. Carries a 70-200 f2.8 with the lens hood either reversed or in position, ready to shoot. Top Features: Pop Down increases bag height for keeping the lens hood in shooting position Lens hood can remain attached, REVERSED or IN POSITION

Hope this helps

I have a piece of "crap" bought especially for that configuration (5d2+70-200/2.8) 6 years ago.
I still love my piece of crap bag, i still use it every day and it only cost me around $25 on eBay back in the days
the brand is a Chinese or some of the kind, it's called "backpacker (external link)" inside it's around 30cm wide, outside around 35cm wide, the combo 5d2-3 +70-200/2.8 fit perfectly inside without moving

Here a picture of my old "crappy" $25 bag (i love it)

think tank digital holster 50 should fit your requirements with hood and grip on.
