Technique: This Miner bee must have fallen asleep in a flower the night before and I found it in the morning. I held on to the flower with my left hand, and then braced the lens on that same hand to keep in steady.
Tech Specs: Canon 80D (F11, 1/250, ISO 100) + a Canon MP-E 65mm macro lens (about 2x to 3x) + a diffused MT-24EX (both flash heads on the Canon flash mount, E-TTL metering). These are single, uncropped, frames taken hand held.
Technique: This Miner bee could feel the heat coming off of my hand so it climbed on to warm up.
Tech Specs: Canon 80D (F13, 1/60, ISO 200) + a Canon MP-E 65mm macro lens (about 2x) + a diffused MT-24EX (both flash heads on the Canon flash mount, E-TTL metering). This is a single, uncropped, frame taken hand held. Camera set to expose the natural light in the sky, and I used the flash to expose the subject.
