...... that I originally thought was dead lol.
Have to put the little story behind this pic lol. The other morning on a quick skim around the garden I found this male Anthophora plumipes low down on one of the flower beds (full of one of the wild garlic flowers). He wasn't moving so I initially thought he was dead as he was an old male.
Got the camera and agonised as to whether I should take a pic because I don't usually take pics of dead or distressed creatures unless I need to (yep, I am too soft lol). I thought I mustn't miss the chance of seeing the detail of this bee as you cant get that close to them for long when they are active.
Only took 2 pics and was chewing over whether to use the pics as they looked rather nice on the camera. Anyway, 20 to 30 minutes later I went back to look at it and it had gone! Hoorah I thought, he was alive after all lol. So my dilemma was over, I could use the pic
After posting it on my FB timeline and also the BWARS FB page, one of the BWARS guys told me I had woken him up during his nap lol lol. He then explained to me that they clench their jaws onto a stem to bed down over night or to have a sleep - something I didn't know lol and something I had certainly never found before.
Anyway, after all that, here is the pic of him having his nap.
