I didn't even look beyond 25,6K, no need, but what I'm seeing at 25,6K tells me that 8-12k just might be
fine as is.

Wow, these are the best samples yet! (Especially the studio samples in controlled lighting towards the bottom.) This tells the best story yet and will give us a lot of answers. I've made some preliminary determinations, but I would like to wait until we hear more from the guys in this thread who are very smart on analyzing noise and color in relation to the ISO. They have way more knowledge than I do and I'm excited to hear their thoughts.

Cheers,
Bryan

Just a few more days to go for some and with one week left for most of us in the US, here is a great video to watch as sports photographer Kent Locke takes the Canon 1D X Mark II for a spin. He says the autofocus system is a stand-out feature that has truly leaped ahead of the original 1D X. Out of 1,500 shots taken during his test, he said focus was only missed twice. He called it "truly remarkable".

Awesome!

Watching it right now. I am definitely getting the 1D X Mark II. That's a given. But now I'm lusting, again, after the 400 2.8 my goodness that lens is amazing!

Thanks for posting this.

Interesting, for all the praise he gives it when asked if he would upgrade from the 1dx he did not answer .

Rob.

I notice he's shooting wide open at 1/4000 outside and over 1/1000 inside. I've never shot faster than 1/800 before really. Just curious if this is the norm or if he is just testing the 1Dx2 to its limits?

He's doing that to catch the quick action in sharp detail of the fast moving subject. At that focal range, 400mm, there will be a significant amount of focus depth available to him. Go much higher than F2.8 and the background starts to come too much into focus. The F2.8 is to blur out the background nicely which also gives good subject background separation. Typical settings for outdoor sports.

Looks like I need to push my 7D2 a little bit more.

Wow :p :p:love:

Thanks for this. 12800 ISO looks like 3200 on my 5D3..... I see a full 2 stops ISO improvement over the 5D3. At least 2 stops. 25000 ISO is very usable. Most of these were at F/5.6 at those higher ISO's...F/4 glass will be the new King......Fast Glass will be heaven.....m awesome. Just awesome. Cant wait to get this

Thanks for posting

I've just received an email from my retailer (Wex, UK) to say that they are not now expecting to receive the cameras until Friday (was Wednesday). I don't know if that's just them or whether all UK retailers are in the same boat.

Thanks for the update Scott! Sorry to hear about the delay, but always good to get info on when things are or aren't moving.

Exactly why I recently added the 24-70/F4 and am looking for a 16-35/F4. The 400DOii is already F4 :)
Now if only the 100-400ii could have been ha! Greedy? Well the 500 is so again no complaints.
I think Jim Reeves from the grave could re-write 'Welcome to my F4 world'.....

Go for the 200-400mm f/4 :)

I would but sadly the money-tree out back has perished.
Hanging on the dead tree is a sign 'Kidney purchases to the right'.
Really I'm getting old enough that it's not that many years down the road
and I'll need to evaluate what I can wield. The 500mm is already pushing
the limit.
No doubt the 200-400 is remarkable.

Has anyone received a shipping notice for their WFT-E8A? My Amazon order has said it will be released on April 25, but now it just says Out of stock.
