You are right Mark! I checked the recipe and Output sharpening was disabled. here it is again. This time sharpened: method - Natural Clarity 14 and Structure 9.

I find the PS version appears more believable, but appears also over sharpened. That may be due to the 5DS's fine detail, or some extra sharpening was automatically applied during export.

So much to learn. It's great to have so many people here who can offer suggestions to improve. My eyes aren't that great, so I'm going to experiment with some images of well defined objects to figure out the best settings.

Thanks again!

I know the vision thing :( Deal with it daily.
I keep reading and reading this thread, then playing in LR, PS. I just added DPP to play with and I've yet to open any 5Dsr file in DXO.
Someday the magic combo/recipe will emerge from someone.

I took the same RAW picture and edited it in CaptureOne and then exported it to JPEG and then I did the same in Photoshop. Both are sized to 1280 pixels on the long side.

The first picture is out of CaptureOne 9 was using their defaults for color. I just tweaked Exposure, Contrast, Highlights and Shadow sliders.

The second picture is from Photoshop. I could probably get better colors out of the Photoshop example by tweaking the sliders. Here again I just adjusted Exposure, Contrast, Highlight and Shadows.

What do you think?

Colors are more important to me than 'apparent' sharpness in this case. So I'd choose the 1st pic hands down.

Did you use some form of graduated filter on its side, CP or other? Just curious about the left side sky and water.

OK we all love the 100-400ii but sometimes I don't want that much weight.
Enjoying the cropability like we can on the 5Dsr why not a 70-300 L ??
Looks like the lens resolves well on this body-

Another image that looks over sharp to me.
It is at DPP setting 4 (whatever that is?)

Still scratching my head on post processing the raw files from the 5Dsr but a recipe will
eventually come out.
In the mean time I have a new favorite lens for it.
Seeing the cropability of this body I bought a 70-300 L just for it-
