OSIRIS-REx is NASA's first mission to visit an asteroid and return a sample of material to Earth. Yesterday marked the beginning of the seven-year long endeavor, with the uphill ride provided by the venerable Atlas V rocket.

Atlas standing ready the day before launch. Note the single solid booster on the vehicle. The rarely-flown and very asymmetric 411 configuration was chosen for this mission.
