Because the main focus of this thread is our wives (maybe it should be "spouses" instead, to encompass all members?), it's almost impossible to detach the emotional context of the photos from the technical/artistic qualities of the photo. I'm sure I'm not alone in feeling that some of our favorite shots aren't necessarily our best shots in terms of photography.

Here's one example from a few years ago, shot with an iPhone 4, in very dim light:

IMAGE: http://www.ethereality.info/ethereality_website/photography/kitty_cat_diaries/2011/kittycat_diary-1166.jpg

We were in bed reading, and when she got tired, she closed her book and turned out the lamp on her side of the bed. But instead of getting under the covers and going to sleep, she crawled between my legs and rested her head on my tummy. I stroked her hair as I kept reading, and she fell asleep like that. It was the cutest thing and I just had to snap a couple of shots, except my 1D MarK II was in my studio and all I had was the crappy camera of the iPhone. The results were really flat and boring looking photos, but in terms of emotional context, they're some of my favorite photos I've ever taken of her.

Later on, when I upgraded to the Samsung Galaxy Note 3, I tried to use it as my sole casual camera for snapping photos while going out (while the 5D Mark III stayed at home), and soon I realized it's just not going to cut it due to the low dynamic range and excessive noise in dim lighting (not to mention slow AF, fixed focal length, no DOF control), so that's when I got the E-M1 as my dedicated travel/going out camera (and now the a7RII stays at home).

The two favorite photos I took of Elena with the Galaxy Note 3 are these:

IMAGE: http://www.ethereality.info/ethereality_website/photography/kitty_cat_diaries/2014/2014-05-06_15-43-10.jpg

They don't look like anything special, but those photos contained special emotional memories. She was being unusually playful in those moments when I took the photos, saying some of the funniest things I've ever heard coming out of her mouth. (And because she was being coquettish and dorky in the most hilarious way on those two occasions, I shot videos too, but those can't be shared without her dying from embarrassment.)

What about you guys? Do you have photos that you love that aren't "good photography" but have special emotional memories?

Always enjoy your photographic view Lunatique, as always great captures. She is a very photogenic lady.
Thank you both for sharing.

Is that on location? The lighting makes it hard to tell, but obviously the rocks and roots near her are real. What did you modify the lighting with?

The exposure level on her is a tad bright compared to the background. Try bringing down the exposure level on her by about half a stop and the whole subject to background ratio should appear more harmonious.
