I recognized that immediately! Taken in 2010.

That is a very interesting image, Dan! It is quite unique, from a tonal standpoint. The darks are very, very dark. I am curious to know, were the dark areas really that dark, relative to the rest of the scene, or was some type of processing used to boost the contrast and create the deep, dark, almost detail-less areas?

.

"Your" and "you're" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"They're", "their", and "there" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"Fare" and "fair" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one. The proper expression is "peace of mind", NOT "piece of mind".

Yes I have a tendency towards extreme shooting and processing when it comes to landscapes. I think we have all heard the rule that you should shoot early or late (not between 10.00am and 4.00pm and never into the sun). So being the contrary so-and-so that I am I only shoot between 10.00am and 4.00pm and only into the sun.

As for processing I have been strongly influenced by photographers like Sebastião Salgado, whose B&W prints are often extremely black. But I think I go a little further. His images are still documentary in nature whereas mine are not. I have no interest in showing you an image that you can see just by standing where I stood. The concept of shooting/processing in order to get the maximum amount of detail out of the shadows is anathema to me.... in fact I process in the opposite direction. I will often brush over a shadow area and pull the shadows down further while pulling up the highlight so that only the most prominent details remain.

Dan,

Thanks for the explanation. I think it's cool that you have your own unique style!
