I've wanted this lens for quite a while and was looking for a good deal. Finally found a pristine copy for $700. Took this on the first day out with it. Have to say its my favorite lens now. Great wide open, even better stopped down to f/5.6.

Great shot! By including the fisherman you provide an excellent reference to the scale of that wave.
Just got my copy today. This is not a technically perfect shot by any means. But it was rainy and cold outside. Still I went out to try and get some shots buy the birds flew off well before I got close enough. Sucks, they were cute little bastards. So I had to settle for shooting through a thick picture window. Still I'm satisfied with the sharpness. I was curious how the lens performed wide open at the long end. From a few test shots around the house, it seems to be a well balanced lens. And handles quite well. It's got some weight, but not stupid heavy like the 2.8 no doubt would have been. I can't really tell if I need any MAF or not? I'll set up the target sometime and check.
I want to die peacefully, in my sleep, like my grandfather.
