I went outside, took 4 photos and they all came out awesome for what I was using IMO. I'm super excited for the upcoming super moon. I wish I had a longer zoom, though.

I used my 70-200 f/4 and the 1.4X III together.

Should I get the 2x also?

Good shot! Not sure you need to go longer. You may want to zoom in to 10X on live view and check focus manually to make sure you achieve good focus. Then, put it on a 10 second timer and a shutter release cable.

And yeah, full moons are not the greatest of subjects. The bright light tends to wash out details. The crescent moon tends to be more fun because you can see more crater details near the terminator line.

If I don't get the shots I want with the gear I have, the only optics I need to examine is the mirror on the bathroom wall. The root cause will be there.

Yeah that is at 100% crop. It sucked because I had it on a tripod, but because I live on a mountain I was on a hill and if I took my hands off the tripod it would have fallen over haha. So it was basically handheld. Is there any way to not make it a 180kb image? I know there's no color in the image, but would an 8x10 or something of that nature even print?

the good thing about the super moon is that...at least in my opinion, it looks better when shooting wider...if you take a close photo of the supermoon, it won't look any different than any old full moon photo in a photo....unless there is some sort of scale...so shoot it wider and include some scenery

Much better than my first attempt. Keep at it, you'll get a crisp shot. Something that helped me was going on the roof as the city lights would make my images soft.
