Last night, the eighth bird in the Wideband Global SATCOM system was launched atop a Delta IV Medium+. This system is employed by the Department of Defense to enable battlefield communications for the US Military and its allies.

The Delta IV Medium+ flies with four solid rocket boosters, which I'm guessing had something to do with all this mayhem:

(Tell me about that one time you dropped your camera!)

It was peaceful that morning:

Anyway, the launch:

Good shots, even with the problems.
Not a sailor, are you? I love my Tiltall, but might think twice before hanging a off-center weight on it like a spinnaker in a high wind without staking it down. The Mesopotamians figured that out 5,000 years ago! And now you did, too! ; D
Lucky it was grass that they tipped over on.

They are staked down, but with bungee cords (They're actually still holding on in the photo). That's only enough to resist inclement weather, though.

I was a bit surprised, usually nothing short of a Heavy will knock anything over in the places we're allowed to be. That said, I'll probably use ratcheting straps on the next Delta.

I would have thought that bungee cords would do the job, too. I wonder what the strength of that pressure wave was.
