Delta IV Launch (WGS-8)

Last night, the eighth bird in the Wideband Global SATCOM system was launched atop a Delta IV Medium+. This system is employed by the Department of Defense to enable battlefield communications for the US Military and its allies.

The Delta IV Medium+ flies with four solid rocket boosters, which I'm guessing had something to do with all this mayhem:

Good shots, even with the problems.
Not a sailor, are you? I love my Tiltall, but might think twice before hanging a off-center weight on it like a spinnaker in a high wind without staking it down. The Mesopotamians figured that out 5,000 years ago! And now you did, too! ; D

They are staked down, but with bungee cords (They're actually still holding on in the photo). That's only enough to resist inclement weather, though.

I was a bit surprised, usually nothing short of a Heavy will knock anything over in the places we're allowed to be. That said, I'll probably use ratcheting straps on the next Delta.

I would have thought that bungee cords would do the job, too. I wonder what the strength of that pressure wave was.
