Thanks for the tips. I actually switched shirts to a black one in order to just get my face to stand out. I wanted everything to be black accept for my skin. I'll give the rim light a try. For right now I've just been practicing with one light before I add anymore.

very nice, Regan. I understand your reasoning re: crushing the shirt, but you may want to try adding just a *suggestion* of a rim on the shoulder. You never know until you try, and if you prefer it black, then that's great too. Btw, you have a great face for portraiture. Again, good job.

Thanks! I'm going to give the rim light a shot. I ordered another light stand and a boom stand so I'll be able to get some more practice in once they arrive.

I took the advice of Jelloneck and Snafoo and added a rim light. I couldn't figure out where to place the light correctly. I placed it directly behind my head about 2 feet away. I zoomed out on the speed light to 24mm. This is the result I got.

i like both but i am drawn more to the original,i didn't mind your black shirt,i did kinda make your head look like its floating but i was more drawn by the lighting,i think its the hat in the second, its kinda blown out and distracts from the image of your face, can u try a rim light one with out the hat on so its similar to the first

I was on a road trip a few weeks ago and did a mini photo project on those empty roadside rest stops. One day I'm going to have a true picnic at one of these, grill and all!

Half a year ago, I got the x100s, it was stolen after a month or two. Today I got a x100t. Happy times again. It is hard to share...

Seriously... that sucked. Just curious, is there a story behind the theft (pick pocket) or just the usual don't trust anyone kind-of thing?

1) From a recent hike, here is a Life List shot for me. Found the right plant in the right light at the right time. By accident, I zoomed to the center of the image on my monitor at work and it looked a bit too much like a Georgia O'Keefe painting.
