those are some good points... how bad was the hit on the wallet?

depends on when you go and for how long...

the room we got on property for this week was less than $200 a night...other weeks that same room was over $300...park admission starts at around $100 per park, per day per person, but if you will be there longer the park hopper pass is the way to go and it saves big $$...there are so many add ons and other things you can do...our family of 3, for 2 days in the park, not counting airfare we are at close to $1500...plane tickets I used miles for...

Yeah...we stayed 6 days so....

Basically my bonuses finance a trip every year.

Haha! I was thinking about doing a Disney cruise but the price made me reconsider. Plus reviews were saying it was overrated. So we're going to Vancouver instead in September.

You not a professional? Well that certainly was a pro review with actual hands on and images to prove it. I wasn't looking at that combo and now I know not to even if I return to dreams of BIF with e-mount someday. But without the TC the bare lens just shines! Also you didn't have to rub in your sunny weather!

I just did a round of sharpness tests between my Batis 85mm and 70-200mm f/4L IS. At landscape apertures of f/8 and up I can't tell the difference between the two. Trying to decide what to do about it.

A small/light kit is my aim, but it's hard for me to keep the Batis over the zoom if they are both about the same sharpness. Tempted to sell both and pick up a Loxia 85mm.

Perplexing.

Still inclined to keep the Batis. Lightest weight and still very good, even if it can't beat a zoom.

Have you had a chance to try the Sony FE 70-200 f4 lens? I'd be curious to know how it stacks up against the Canon "L" lens. According to DxO tests, the new 70-200mm f/2.8 FE GM lens is “the sharpest and best low-light zoom lens we’ve tested”. That gives me hope that the f4 version is at least as sharp as the Canon and possibly even sharper.

Here's more from the Sony Alpha Rumors page.

I used to own the F4, yes it's sharp. AF is quick too.

David, you know that I love the Loxia 85. Dare I say it's my most favorite lens now and I give it an edge over the excellent Lox 21 and Batis 18. The Lox 85 is a bit larger especially with the hood but I reverse it when the lens is stored away. The lens is a bit heavy but I have no issues with it. Mind you I haven't hiked 5 miles somewhere with it and a mix of other primes or a zoom.

I would highly recommend the Lox 85 to anyone looking for a no compromise high quality lens with that special Zeiss quality.

I have indeed owned the FE 70-200mm F4. Comparable to the Canon except towards the long end where the Canon is a touch sharper.

Although it's difficult, for me at least, to evaluate sharpness based on a small sized example, I appreciate you posting those Vinz.
