Has anyone moved from Canon 70D to the 80D? What is it that you gained by this move? Also, do you find the picture quality any different?

I went from a 60d to the 80d and it was a big difference to me in picture quality. Higher ISO seems much cleaner faster high speed continuous shots and oh lets not forget the touch screen. :-) hope this helps

Firmware indicates minor changes:

Firmware Version 1.0.2 incorporates the following fix:

1. Improves the reliability of communication via USB cable when using the Lens Data Registration function within EOS Utility 3 software.
2. Fixes incorrect indications in the Norwegian menu screens.

I will not be updating....

An interesting question, and one I also seem to be curious about more and more everyday. I can't help but wonder if the dynamic range and AF improvements are a significant net gain.

Bought a new toy last week (35mm f2 IS). Took it out for the first time yesterday. Very nice lens, and thanks to the short MFD also capable of decent close-up shots.

That's one of my favorites! Congrats. :)

Hi djr01974. I also have 17-55. What is the benefits of 35 mm f/2 IS over 17-55 IS? I am planing to buy this 35 mm lens.

You get an f/2.0 aperture and better overall optical performance vs. the zoom. More affordable. Smaller physical size makes it nicer for a less bulky setup. But, the 17-55 is much more versatile for general walk around use and travel, f/2.8 aperture is great for portraits too. Both are excellent lenses.

What kind of portraits are you looking to take: head, upper body, full body, environmental? That'll be your ultimate deciding factor. My suggestion is to first get a zoom lens that covers those focal lengths, see what range you find yourself shooting at the most, and then eventually buy the prime lens that is in that range. Maybe start out with the 55-250 STM, a great lens that gets you in that range.
