I am a fan of Sigma lenses' rendering and would be all over this lens... if it came out. Which brings me to my point: what's with the hype? Where does it say that it IS coming out? Did I miss an official announcement? Or is it just a rumor flare-up? If I missed it, could someone post a reliable link please?

EDIT: I stand corrected. It IS coming.

Just noticing that the new Sigma has an inner focus design so the lens doesn't extend while zooming, as opposed to the 24-70 2.8 ii

Yes it is... we still don't have a date or price, right?

the videos I have seen of it so far definitely show it extending - it is a short lens

Hockey and wedding photographer. Favourite camera / lens combos: a 1DX II with a Tamron 45 1.8 VC, an A7Rii with a Canon 24-70F2.8L II, and a 5DSR with a Tamron 85 1.8 VC. Every lens I own I strongly recommend [Canon (35Lii, 100L Macro, 24-70F2.8ii, 70-200F2.8ii, 100-400Lii), Tamron (45 1.8, 85 1.8), Sigma 24-105]. If there are better lenses out there let me know because I haven't found them.

OK... I guess we'll have to wait and see. I haven't heard a release date yet. B&H just says "coming soon" the last time I checked.

I sold my Nikkor 24-70G ED 2 years ago and went for primes in that range. But primes are bit inconvenient for certain events so I was thinking of getting another 24-70 and Sigma 24-70 A comes at a good time. However, I was expecting 24-70 1.8 (would be great for wedding events ) and not 2.8. From reading the interview of Sigma CEO, he stated that the company objective is to bring out different products to the market and they have machines to manufacture large aspherical element so I don't know why they did not go to f1.8 or even 2.0. Sigma 24-35 A f2.0 and 18-35 1.8 DC A were big hits. Unless it is exceptional sharp with creamy bokeh at wide open, I do not see how Sigma is going to compete with Tamron 24-70 2.8 which has excellent VC and great optics & good price. Does anyone else have the same or different view?

It definitely extends. Look at Loks video from CP+ with the Sigma rep showing it extend as it zooms.

Erm, I can't play the video with sound right now at work so it may have been mentioned verbally but I'm not seeing any sign of a stabiliser on that 24-70.

The name on the side of the lens doesn't have 'OS' in it and there's no sign of an on/off switch for it on the side.

The 24-70 does have internal FOCUS, not zooming, so it will extend when zooming but not when focusing. This means petal hoods will work without the petals coming in and out of view.

Stabilisation confirmed by rep at about 1m in to vid.

I had the Tamron 24-70 2.8 VC and I found the IQ & OS great!!! Almost the same like the 24-70 II but with VC.
Eventually I sold it as I couldn't get used to the backward zooming, this would be made like this for filmmakers.

The Sigma 24-70 OS Art has no price available yet, but It will definitely be expensive.
I'd rather keep my Canon 24-70 2.8L MKI, a standardzoom is just for casual (boring) maistream work, so not woth all that money :p
And if you shoot for customers, they don't notice a tad sharper anyway :)
