Getting my Bird on today......

So I don't shoot birds, don't know much about it or any of that, but there are some dope wetlands by me with some serious heavy hitting retired photogs that have a cars worth of gear to capture such beasts....so like a few times a year, I go and give it a shot, and it was a beautiful day so what the hell.....warning, I like these, but I have no idea what makes a good bird shot or not LOL

With freshly cut #1 hairstyle I was looking mean on the bird scene....using my beloved 100-300 F4 ex from sigma...not big and white, but it is the biggest tool in my bag and the long hood really helped me fit in LOL. I bought this for surf shots, doubles for flighty friends. This is from my mostly used Fuji xe2 courtesy of my young photog in training daughter.

I feel like this was my best today, I don't know much in birds. I got some good flight ones, but found the composition boring, so I am rolling with this as my fav from the day.

I really think that it is cool to go and shoot stuff totally out of your realm every now and then. I had fun, and it is fun to go and do something different because expectations are low and vibes are good and laid back. Also, the 6Dis just so capable. I was shooting a flying osprey and seriously all 8 of my shots were locked in focus. Center point sure, but hand held and aI servo and really finicky subject. I love the 6D. I am really loving my Fuji system, but I would never bail in the 6d for dslr stuff.

Everything is relative.

I like your Wood Stork and the Tri Colored. What's the Wood Stork look like in color? They're neat looking birds. They look kind of prehistoric.

You sound surprised that you were able to lock focus and track. You shouldn't be. With a little practice you'll be able to do it 90% of the time. The constant crapping on the 6D's focus system is mostly regurgitation from those that don't even own one. After owning one for some time I don't have any trouble catching good BIF pictures.

The most important thing you mentioned above......you had fun. That, my friend, is the object of the exercise. ;-)a

Sorry that was kinda tongue and cheek, I love the 6D and very capable, but yes the "Constant crapping" by the "5Dnext" crowd is why I made it a point. I shoot surfing with my 6D and am happy with the AF.

The wood stork in color was ok, the image just screamed BW to me.

Saea, just saw your heron shots, You don't by any chance shoot at green cay/wakadahatchee do you? Also looked like the pro move was to post up and just wait for a moment and spray with continuous when it goes down. I really am there for the nice walk so didn't really hang in one spot to long but I think I will go back soon and actually try to think out the finished shot more.

Awesome shots!

Just a guess. Wakodahatchee? My usual haunt.

Must be Wakodahatchee, Green Cay doesn't have those rookeries...I hang out at both regularly... :)

Although this past weekend I spent a day at Ding Darling NWR at Sanibel Island. Nice place. Lots of big lenses there too!!!
