I actually sold the 24-70 f2.8 because f2.8 just wasn't quite fast enough for indoor use and replaced it with the 35 f2 IS. I don't regret my decision.

Wow... you really limited your focal lengths for less than a stop (granted there is IS). I don't have a 24-70 anymore, nor do I feel like I need one, but I don't think I would have made particular decision.

What are the pros and cons of that choice for you?

It will definitely be different for everyone but I do mainly portraits and automotive shots. I only use wider lens only if I have to because of space limitations or because I want to include a bit of the environment in my shots. I found that when I was using the 24-70, I was always in the 35-50mm range and rarely at 70mm because at that point I would just use the 70-200mm.

I think one thing that isn't being mentioned is the awesome IS on the 35/2. While one stop isn't much, in combination with the IS, I feel that the 35/2 has a place in anyone's toolkit for the times when you can't use flash and a non-IS lens cannot give you the shutter speed you need.

If I don't get the shots I want with the gear I have, the only optics I need to examine is the mirror on the bathroom wall. The root cause will be there.

Definitely. I rented both the 35mm f1.4 L version 1 and the 35mm f2 IS to see which I wanted to purchase. While the f1.4 was nice, it wasn't quite sharp wide open so I was stopping it down a bit anyway. The IS and the lower price made the 35 f2 way more appealing. The 35mm f1.4 version 2 might be the only other lens I would want to try to upgrade to when the price is lower.

Its a stellar lens, joy to shoot with especially on a FF body. I'd go as far as saying, its a L quality lens in a generic black disguise.

i made the same move, however for weight saving reasons, not because i didnt find 2.8 fast enough.

no regrets, other than lack of reach, as the 35mm is my only remaining lens now. still love that little thing!

This is my dilemma. I'm sure it can work both ways. I don't do much indoor work and I'm not a professional... just a dedicated hobbyist.

I won't have the money for 24-70 f/2.8 ll for a while... so while I'm saving up for it, I'll obviously have enough for the 35 f/2 IS along the way. I don't know what will happen. ;)

I regret selling mine. So sharp wide open, and lightweight to boot!

Between this lens and the 135L, I don't think there's much that these couldn't shoot together and in any light. For me, it's almost the perfect lens. Fast, lightweight but high quality, sharp as hell, and great colors. The focal length is nice on FF and crop and the bokeh is sweet. Here's some stuff I have shot fairly recently which show it's versatility.
