On the STM, I'm not sure it's relevant,. but on the older versions, AF was hit or miss. (mostly miss :) )

My STM has been fantastic. It truly is a very different lens from the old one, so likely no concern at all.

Sweet. I haven't purchased my 50mm STM yet, so glad that they seem to be consistent.

Well decided to order the 50 1.8 STM. It'll be here tomorrow. New toy to play with.:-D

Well, had some time to work with the 50 1.8 STM, and I have to say, I really like it. The STM is a bit strange, but I'm sure I'll get used to it. Sharp little thing and weighs next to nothing. Thanks for the comments. Made my decision easy. ߑ

I tried the 50 STM for one day last weekend and tested it at f/1.8 on the 5DsR. Took around 50 street shots and was pleasantly surprised. On the negatives, the bokeh is just decent, focus is not consistent like other lenses, colours are a bit dull and vignettes a lot WO.
Considering the price it is a bargain and imho worth giving it a try.
