Always inspiring to see photos of these. When I was a kid I had a book that described them as the rarest bird in the world. It wasn't quite true, but it wasn't far off either. IIRC, back then there were only about 42 individuals in the wild.

Thanks you Jack, appreciate your looking in and commenting. I think the count got as low as 14 back, I believe, in the 1940s. This flock seems to be hanging right around 350.
As a side note, this refuge is located by the Intracoastal Waterway which handles a multitude of barge shipments of toxic materials on a daily basis. A serious mishap and, well...:rolleyes:
