Right! I'm not even sure I like it, but like you said, there is a certain amount of intrigue to it.

I really like that first one kapakahi - has a nice, dreamy ethereal feel to it, beautifully exposed. The yellow orifice(?) at the bottom distracts my eye a little but no big deal. The second is a tricky, fun illusion with the lower portion reminding me of hip x-ray; great capture.

Thanks sapearl! That yellow orifice is the very top of the candle. I can see now how that can be a little distracting. Probably exposing the candle a little more or not at all would've come out better.

I completely agree with you - I even guessed wrong what it was ;-)a. Either show a lot more to establish the context, or nothing at all.....but that's just my opinion. If you REALLY wanted to experiment with its composition, perhaps cropping it square from the top. It would change the visual energy, making it a more static arrangement, almost like a sculpture. Now I'm thinking back to my old film days when I used to shoot square; just a thought, there is no right or wrong solution, just different levels of impact and interpretation. Thanks for sharing just the same.

Don't even begin to think I'm criticizing your images.
Just a natural curiosity.

FWIW, when I shoot smoke, I use a black backdrop/a side mounted flash/incense sticks.
Then into PS to morph into neat stuff...see link at bottom.

Some abstract nature.

It's a nice illusion - reminds me of bridge piers under a massive structure :-D
