Hey gang - besides a Hoya or B&W UV filter (not paying the big bucks) - what is a good bargain 95mm filter to get for this lens?

I'm thinking Bower UV and possibly a CPL too...

also - anyone use a certain clear plastic bag over your lens for water-proofing in the rain?

i picked up one of theses, i notice 0 difference in quality or af speed, i pixel peep too, price was awsome ,

Have never used a filter on my lenses apart from when doing landscapes with my uwa do not see the need esp on the siggy, The hood is big enough to protect your glass.

UV filters should all burn in hell. the ONLY time I could ever see one using one is say in a very sandy windy place where sand would be blastig your front element or in a very misty wave crashing salty area where it would be hitting the front element. other then that they would all be in the trash

I'd use one in the high wind sand/salt water situation if I were prepared for it I guess.
But years ago I stopped buying them so I don't have them to fit many of my current lenses, just some 77mm ones still. I never remember to pack them though if the wind does blow up.

Ironically, we don't get that option for our $10k super-telephotos, none made large enough :) (Packing an extra dinner plate in case the wind kicks up might be awkward anyway.)

CPL and ND is another story. I keep 77mm and 52mm drop in filters on hand at all times.
95mm CPL is REALLY pricey though! I won't be getting one of those!

I found a cpl of the brand Kim pointed out, priced like it is a well priced UV... so I may jump on it next pay if it is still available. I feel it is a possible mistake but any transaction is fully covered...

I did have one clear B+W filter for my 17-55.. to keep the dust out. I only had the lens for a few months and passed along the filter when I sold it.

I have found CPL's work for me in many cases. Sometimes for the sky.. other times to cut down the glare. It was worth it to me to spend the cash.... but I'm fortunate that I can put a few dollars away for photo gear every week.

Another think. Was out in the weekend and shooting some cranes in Sweden and had a lot of trouble getting the right focus on the birds, they were all back focused. When I got home i tried to adjust the Sigma with the dock and got a number at - 2 instead of +10 at 600 mm and with a distance at about 50 m. I even had it sent to Sigma at that time and it came back with comments that it was adjusted correctly by me. Have this happened to any of you, i think it could have been there for a while, maybe from last time I updated the firmware.

Mark, what do you mean with BBF?, is that an MFA software?, sorry if this sounds like a stupid question but I want to buy Relican, maybe there is an other option.

No prob it means back button focusing instead of using the shutter button to focus.
