I had managed to smash the LCD in the top cover and damage the control buttons, the rest of the camera was ok. Having been a former precision electronics engineer, I decided to get a new part and fix it myself. Parts suitably acquired, camera stripped down, and parts replaced. Camera is now back and working again. For those interested, the "weather sealing" is virtually non-existent on the 6D, and there are several places where water can easily ingress IMHO. I thought I'd been reasonably careful with mine, and had always wiped off any rain splashes, but I found evidence around the seams between panels of water ingress. It hadn't caused any damage as it had not reached any electronic parts, but a cautionary tale for those taking the camera out in rain or snow. The worst areas I found were around the lens mount and the lens lock button, followed by the baseplate and then the joint behind the viewfinder eye cup. All cleaned up ok, but again beware, these are clearly vulnerable areas. No pics to show of the water marks alas, but you won't be too surprised to hear my key interest was getting the camera back together before I lost one of the many many screws, of which few are the same size!
