Almost looks like a Peregrine Falcon.

Thought so too but the patterns don't seem to match. We do have them in the area but are are a few similar species. It might be.

DP and JCC,

I have been puzzling over this ID, searching my RAPTORS book by Wheeler and Clark. I also thought Peregrine Falcon at first, but it doesn't look quite right.

This morning, I photographed a hawk, soaring very high, over my back yard and was struck by the similar wing and head patterns. See what you think:

Swainson's Hawk

Sibley mentions Swainson's "deep wing beats", which your raptor certainly exhibits. They are migrating back north from South America, right now.

Nothing to write mom about but this is a rare find for me so I'm gonna post. I was driving past the city waste site and spotted 2 of these. By the time I got out of the car and they moved and eventually got lost within about 1000 seagulls. I tried to track them but it was impossible. This is very heavy crop. A spec in the middle of the frame :-)

Could it be an Osprey?

Yep and thanks so much. That exact location is listed as a hot spot. It is actually Swainson's. My typos are probably in first place around here :-)
