Nice! Berreta's last attempt at the contract over Sig's being the final win. Beautiful piece. How do you like it?

Thank you. Just picked it up yesterday and haven't been to the range yet. I'm impressed with the fit and finish, but it's weird handling an M9 with such a different grip angle and size. I've got to be on the range to qualify with another weapon on Tuesday, so I'll bring this along and put a few hundred rounds through it and report back.

I had a heck of a time getting my hands on one of these. Availability is pretty scarce, unless you want to pay a $200-300 markup on an online gun auction site which I was not gonna do.

Well, it works! :-) Didn't know how much time I'd have on Tuesday, so I stopped and put 100 rounds through at a private range today. Here's the fresh target I put out for the last 30 rounds, starting at 40 feet, 50 and then pushing it out to 75. I bet you can tell when I got out to 75;-)a. Not bad for an out of the box factory pistol. Oh, and it didn't take long to get used to the new style grip. Nice improvement.

Nice, really nice. I could never shoot like that with a 9mm! Not that UK military issue Brownings are/were that nice. If I were lucky I could keep about 90% of the rounds on a full size Fig 11 (British Advancing Soviet target). About the only civilian 9mm I shot was my Dad's FEG, and his poor handloading processes didn't make that fun at all. 5 gr of Vihtavuori N310 behind a 123 gr FMJ is an explosive combination :eek::cry:.

Now give me a wheelgun and that is another matter. I could keep pretty much all the rounds from my S&W 586 in the 10 ring at 20 yards, double action slow fire. Using my favoured .38 spl target load.

God I miss playing with handguns.

I've got a transitional commercial Browning with the old (as you Brits would say) "rubbish" front sight, but the MkIII ambidextrous safety.

I'll see about posting a picture shortly, now that I'm set up again for still life with my home made PVC light tent.

Thanks! I'm not sure what model we were issued with in the RAF. I just remember it was what seemed like a bad parkerized finish. What I really would like to see is a 6" 586, with the Pachmayr grips. I really loved that old gun of mine. Only reason I don't still have it is thanks to our handgun ban back in 97. At least I managed to get real full market value for it in the hand in. I would not have got close to what I got selling it on the open market. The £300 I got for my Browning Match 150 .22lr was even better, for a gun I paid £150 for from a dealer.

As I recall, you did black paint over parkerizing. Mine's a LOT nicer than that!

Sorry, I never went down the "L" frame road. Would a 4" 29-2 do instead? :D

Thank you, Alan. I generally do better with a Beretta M9 than other handguns because I spent my most intense and formative pistol training on one and continued to train and carry one (or the civilian 92F) for many years. The new M9A3 is like a morphing of the best of a Beretta M9 and a CZ75, so it's even more instinctive to shoot in my opinion.

Sorry, these will have to hold you until I can clear a path to the gun safe (too much DIY photography stuff) to get newer (and better) images.

Glock 19 (notice the Virginia Beach Sheriff's Department logo) and Browning Hi Power and 3 1/2" and 6" S&W M27-2s. Note on the Browning the Pachmayr rear sight and the "dodgy" factory front. I paint the back of the latter with a white paint marker for increased visibility.
