I am very new to photography and don't even own a DSLR - just a Lumix ZS40. I see all the beautiful photos on this forum with the wonderful detail and compare them to my very amateur shots and I now see what could be. Yes, I think I've been bitten by the bug and will now throw countless dollars and hours into this wonderful past time. The shots of this Cedar Waxwing fighting with a piece of string were taken from about 75 feet, handheld through the glass window of my sunroom.
Beware - this hobby frequently leads to long hours outdoors, hiking all over, with 500 kilos of equipment on your back. It also leads to the selling of your children so you can afford the 500 kilos of equipment. Just when you think you have everything you need, a new camera or lens upgrade comes out.
