The RWBBs were merciless this afternoon at my favorite bird park... All this heron wanted was some fish, but the blackbirds were relentless and would not leave him alone. In spite of the distractions, however, he managed to catch a couple of nice catfish about an hour apart...

Pretty active and unique shots Rocky, very eye-catching! That RWBB looks like a PITA.

Thanks, guys! Sure was fun to watch the action... the heron for the most part seemed unfazed by the blackbird's assault, though once in a while it would turn and squawk or flutter its wings to shoo the redwing away. But in spite of the harassment, it managed to catch two nice catfish in the span of about an hour, so it got a good meal for its efforts.

Ha, ha, fun series, Rocky. Any thoughts on what the BBs were trying to accomplish?

Yeah, the blackbirds do that when the heron is too close to their nest area, trying to drive it away. Herons will happily raid the nests and eat baby blackbirds if they find them, so the male RWBBs take no chances, even if the heron is *only* after a fish!

Totally unfair that some people get four - FOUR! - animals in one shot and I struggle to get a single one...

Amazing as always!

Chris, sometimes things just work out... this particular park is really good for shots like this. Lots of wildlife, especially for an urban area.

I always enjoy your images.
