Hi everyone,

this is my gear,

7D
Tammy 17-50 no VC
Canon 10-18
Canon 70-300is old one
Canon 100 f2.8 macro
Canon 50 f1.8 Stm

I went through 50 pages in this 3d and still reading but I'd like to ask,

Is there anyone who came from 7d? How do you feel in term of ergonomics(I have big hands), lack of joystick(I think that I get used to it)? Am I going to have compatibility or quality problem with my current lenses? How big is the improvement about high Iso between the 7d and the 80d?

Thanks for answers

I have a 7D2 as my other camera, and both bodies are sporting extended battery grips. I found the 80D a little small without the grip, and although I went for a third party grip on my 80D (7D2 has an OEM grip) it works great and makes the 80D easier to hold and handle. Using the directional pad for choosing an AF point takes a little getting used to, but ultimately it's as good if not better than the joystick functionality. Finally, the 80D performs superbly at high ISO, and while the 7D2 was a vast improvement you'll see a huge difference in the noise of the high ISO files of the 80D versus the 7D.

I had a 7D, currently have a 5D4 as well as the 80D.

The 80D is a little smaller than the 7D, but not so small as to be difficult. If you are going back and forth between the 7D and the 80D, you might find the differences in controls annoying until you get used to the differences, but if you are getting rid of the 7D and will just have the 80D I don't think you will be disappointed losing the joystick. Having a touch screen is far more advantageous to me.

All your lenses will work just fine, same EF-S mount. So good to go with EF-S or Full Frame EF lenses.

If you are coming from the 7D you will see a HUGE improvement in image quality it's been 5 years since I had my 7D, but I seem to recall anything over 1600-3200 ISO being a problem. 80D can easily go to 6400 or more and blow away the images from a 7D at 1600. It has far better dynamic range and you can really pull detail out of the shadows.

Thank you guys, these are the answers that make me pull the trigger cause my worst concern is(was?) about the high iso performance.

I know about difference about EF-S and EF lenses but someone told me that the 80d has a big sensor that my actual gear like the 70-300 doesn't perform well or the Tammy it maybe have some compatibility problem.

Same physical size sensor but 24mp vs 18mp.

Some lenses might not resolve as well with the increased pixel density, but I think that would really only show is special cases and with dedicated "pixel peepers"

80D with DSTE grip and Sigma 50-100 f/1.8 Art.

As far as lenses go, some of the older Tamron lenses do not play well with modern cameras and live view. If it's a US model they will supposedly do a free firmware upgrade, but at least with my 60mm f/2 Macro the supposed fix didn't do anything and I still can't lock focus in Live View on my 80D. Had a similar problem with the 90mm f/2.8 VC Macro which also wouldn't work in live view. Manual focus is key for macro anyway so it doesn't really bother me with the 60mm, but you may have lenses you want to AF in Live View so make sure to check the Tamron lens compatibility and update chart.
