Yes, and there also appears to be an orange colored bolt lock, so she's displaying that she's of little threat--at least for the 30 seconds it will take her to remedy the safety measures.

30 seconds can be an eternity given certain situations.

I'd love to see this part of the world but I'd scared to death to do so given the political climate in the whole area.

So why is she carrying an automatic weapon? She doesn't appear to be an official or military. Not to mention she has no clip. -?

I asked our guide he said probably off duty IDF. They are responsible for their issued weapons and since they most likely do not have a gun locker carry them around with them. The gun is not loaded there is a tell tail in the chamber showing no cartridge. There are two magazines attached to the stock. there is also a unit patch on the magazines. You see alot of people carrying in Israel some are settlers in for the day most I think are off duty IDF the gun control laws in Israel( not the west bank were very severe)This is in Tel Aviv low likely hood of need IMHO

it is spring loaded as soon as you release the bolt when the magazine goes in that falls out. a few seconds at best not 30.

I was there about 3 weeks ago before the latest round of unpleasantness did not feel the least bit threatened. id id not like the crowds in the Market a fire cracker going off would have caused a stampede. Unfortunately it is complicated situation there and Jerusalem right now could be a bit dicey. The rest of Israel not so much. this picture was taken in the market in Tel aviv on a friday it was a break in the crowd for the most part there was little space to move about

Phil,
I have admired your photos for some time -- I find them generally simple in concept and splendid in execution! Keep sharing them with us.

Curt

THANKS!!
