It's been a while since I've used this lens. These are from the Botanic Gardens in Chicago.

If I get one of these, how much use can I get out of it without buying extra gear? Like special flashes for macros. I'm assuming the bugs above were not simply sunlit. I'd love to start playing around with some closeup shots.

Sorry for the late reply but actually everything I shoot is naturally lit. I use the 100L extensively handheld in natural lighting.. its very good IS is a big reason I love it actually

I do not currently even own a flash :)

Trying using it on someone's skin, even the most clearest skin will show every detail with this lens!

True. But this lens is rather for macro. It is good for portrait also bot sometimes there is lot more job in LR or PS.

What magnifications typically? The magnification makes a big difference to lighting requirements.

Hasselblad 500 C/M with 80mm/2.8 Zeiss Planar (trying to sell it); Pentax Spotmatic F with 28/3.5, 50/1.4, 50/1.8, 135/3.5; Canon digital gear
C&C always welcome.
Picture editing OK

Harvestman closeup. Note the beady eye on the top of the body.
