Yeah, this thread died! I have the non-dg version and might sell it and my 500/4 IS to fund an 800L. I don't mind getting rid of the 500/4 but my Siggie? Harder to part with!

That's a shame. I am looking to buy a 500mm lens and was looking for recent posts...

Not me, it's too good to sell. If you can wait then they do turn up occasionally.

With the new Canon firmware which allows the 5DIII and 1DX to AF at f/8, this lens might get some new market life (I bought the Canon because I wanted to be able to use a 1.4X). Perhaps Sigma will consider re-vamping this baby with OS.

I think this lens has an AF issue where the AF doesn't work at all with 1.4x TC's on a Canon mount.

Is there a lens issue or is it the fact that Canon AF traditionally has not worked with lenses over f/5.6, so this lens would not useable on a Canon with a TC if you wished to maintain AF. Canon recently updated the software on the 5DIII and the 1DX so that they will AF to f/8. Has anyone tried this lens with a TC on those bodies?

I've heard that on 1D bodies with a 1.4X ( capable of F8 Focus ) , AF is not possible ( 4.5 + 1.4X = F6.3 ).

Cant find a source to verify though

EOS 1 and 1D cameras AF up to f8, as do the 5DIII's
This isn't a camera issue, but a Sigma AF issue.

Sorry for bumping this for a question that seems to be answered, just to clarify, if I fitted a Kenko 1.4 TC with this lens, it would AF at F/8 only? Or from f/4.5 through to f/8? (on a 1D body & 5D3?)

Very interested for next year as the price is decent second hand..
