My wife wanted to go to La Jolla and see the seals. High tide was rolling in when we got there and the seals had already rolled out. Went and explored some galleries and boutiques, came back, still no seals. Oh well.

Huh, even at the "Children's Pool" ? That's a bit further south of the cove. You probably already know this but just making sure.

Nice photo !

I agree that the children's pool is the best place for seal viewing. The best time is February because that is the birthing season. Lots of little seals and you might catch an actual birth. I have watched several and it is amazing.

Anyone got a great location to capture interesting Perseids meteor shower compositions on the 11th and 12th? I mean, there's always Joshua Tree, but I'm not sure I want to drive that far.

I'm thinking the closest and easiest place with the least amount of light pollution is going to be "Table Mountain". It is the Wrightwood area tubing park place. There are no mountains blocking the view, so you get a great view looking North with LA/OC to your back.

Thanks. I took the kids there last November but my wife didn't get to go with us. Now that we live in the area(ish) she wanted to head out there herself. When I was there in Nov. there were quite a few seals laying about. Granted it was low tide too. Of course, CP is also walking distance to plenty of clothing boutiques and galleries, which is what really sparked my wifes interest.

Thanks. I'll have to keep that in mind.

JT really is the best place for that in Socal. Amboy is right off of 40 so it might be a bit shorter drive, not as scenic there though.

I thought about going to the races on sunday but the $20 parking and $20 entrance fee turned me away. How as the event overall?
