Unfortunately this is outside of my using shooting subject matter. I think because of that I'll give some hints. It's something I found indoors and it was pretty disgusting.

Is it mold?

This would be a cool image with clean paperclips and a different background.
Well done with the stacking.

I find dust to be a problem with my macros also. Any suggestions?

When I shoot still objects, I make sure that my light is soft/diffused, no flash. I also try to settle floating dust particles by misting the area with a fine spray or in the winter I turn my all-house humidifier on high for a while and let the heating run for 15-20 minutes. I also use micro Hepa filters in my AC/heating. Yes, I still see some dust but not a lot. You need a clean room for no dust :)

I don't worry about dust for certain things.

If I'm taking a picture of a twenty five year old memory module, the dust actually gives it context. It didn't just come from Amazon and I don't want it to look like it did.

The things on which dust would matter are things that shouldn't be exposed to excess moisture like guns, knives working electronic equipment, etc. For them, I'd recommend canned air and a microfiber cloth.
