anyone have any experience with the FE 24-240...I am not usually a fan of wide range lenses like that...but sometimes want something that just covers a wider range and doesn't break the bank...

I feel like I should duck after posting this, but Ken Rockwell posted a raving review of it awhile back that popped into my Facebook feed this AM. Don't shoot the messenger! LOL

I was just daydreaming on B&H and saw it...wondered about it...

I put very little stock in KR reviews...which was why I wondered if anyone here has used it...

I've got one, used it a ton during vacation, I can post the vacation images if interested with a dropbox link.

it's fairly heavy, but as a single lens, it was pretty darn handy and I'm happy with the snaps

The AF is pretty darn good, IQ is like the canon 24-105 for the first 28-105mm, then it drops. Not off a cliff, but the far end definitely softer wide open, but click it down to F8, and it's pretty decent again.

Vacation, zoo, amusement park, I do like it and use it quite a bit for snapshots. Due to it's super convenience, I'll sometimes take it rather than much better gear if I dont want to be weighed down with a lot of weight, as the focal range is huge.

Got my new FLM tripod head and leveling base. Please excuse the iPhone shots. Yes lots of knobs but they each serve a purpose. I had to keep my Markins base plate on my tripod since that's the only way to support a tripod head without the use of a centering column.

The head is well made. I wouldn't expect lens from German engineering. The tactile feel of the knobs is a joy.

the leveling base is typically used for gimbals, how would you use it for photography?

and that markins base, is that to convert the gitzo from mountaineer to systematic?

Had the 24-240. Unlike others mine was soft throughout but then again I didn't stop to F8.
I can see trying another copy someday, the convenience factor is huge.
