I had a trip out last night to try out the Batis 18mm for astro. First time I've really had a good go with it, and very happy.

Piha on Auckland's west coast put on a great display for us.

2 row panos of 7 and 9 shots each row.

Shooting at 50mm is what gives this huge Milky Way. The longer the focal length, the bigger the Milky Way. That's why I don't shoot with my Samyang 14mm since I got my 24mm. It looks much better!

As Virginie said, shooting at a longer focal length adds tremendously to the size perspective of the Milky Way, people often recommend shooting MW nightscapes at ultra-wide angles (such as 14mm), I recommend people shoot at longer focal lengths (like 35mm or 50mm) and then stitched shots to get a wider field of view. It's easy to stitch shots together and you gain a tremendous amount of resolution/detail by shooting at longer focal lengths.

Can you share the processing method you used?
I really like the colors of the milky way.

You should do one where you're driving away into the horizon, no headlights on, just tail lights running (even better if you have those led running lights)... can make it a bit more exciting!

That's what I did in this shot a while back, that's "airglow" that creates the strange green shimmer:

Another shot from my night out at Lake Cuyamaca, this one's a composite of two images (both taken the same night) as I wasn't able to occupy "the spot" at the entrance to the pier while our galaxy was lined up with the end of it.

The less colorful north east end of the Milkyway along with Andromeda and even a shooting star on the left plowing into the mountain.
