Focus for the Eclipse

Check out some of my solar images on my Flickr page . Some are with my camera on a tripod using a 135-400mm len and some are with my scope . Check out the settings and that will give you a good idea about settings for your cameras .

Thank you Ron! Today we are having very clear skies again, so I just now took a couple shots and love the looks much better with a slower shutter speed.

The forecast I saw this morning for tomorrow is not as favorable. CRAP!! Partly cloudy with a (starting at 2PM in the middle of the eclipse) 20% chance of precipitation. AARRRGGGHHHH!!

Well 20% is good, better than 80%

Sure wish the eclipse was happening today!!

Keep your heads up , things might change . That's one thing about West Texas is weather changes constantly but we live with it . They are saying partly cloudy to sunny here also . This morning had total cloud cover but now it's mostly clear . I've missed a lot of meteor showers and eclipses due to overcast or rain . But I just wait til the next one . Hope it's clear for you tho .

Well I thought maybe I would scope tonight some to test out my video cam on Saturn but just went outside to check and it's all cloudy , too much for any viewing tonight . Got the same predicted for morning so looks very unlikely that I will see any of the eclipse unless any changes come before 11am Monday morn .

It is also not looking good here either... Bummer

The weather map I saw was showing pretty much the entire mid-west was going to have some clouds.

According to the clear sky map here shows all will be clear .

Huntertown, IN just north of Ft Wayne. Actually, I may have a ~1hr window here of somewhat clear skies, so that gets me to 2pm. Man, it's going to be close. Hazy, but I'm still getting some decent test shots. Using autofocus, which is better than manual for me. I just can't ever make that work.

We are almost neighbors! I live in Elkhart!

I am currently taking pictures, but getting a LOT of clouds as shown below.

I did get a few that show the moon partially covering the sun. Hopefully I will get many more.

Well ended up with clear skies . Took several images with my C8 and XSi . Will post some later . Tried using my camcorder with no luck at all . Watch a lot on tv with the weather channel . Some had clouds but others were very lucky to witness a great eclipse . I look forward to seeing other images posted later . Later !

We lucked out greatly where we were set up! I was really expecting about 50/50 mix of sun and clouds. It turned out to be a great day - other than the 100+ deg heat index and the traffic from my sister-in-law's house back to mine. Should have been about a 4.5 hr drive. Turned into more like a 7 hr drive.
