It appears the migration is starting around here. We're seeing birds we haven't seen since spring. The hummers are back, the lazuli buntings (including a juvenile), evening grosbeaks, pine siskins and nuthatches. Hopefully I get some good photo opportunities in the next few weeks.

Yep, it has started here as well. Our Swallows are on the move and our male Painted Buntings have left (females will leave soon). A bunch of our resident Hummingbirds have left but numbers will rebound in the coming weeks as migrants move through.

I haven't seen any hummingbirds at our feeders since yesterday afternoon. We have had a Lazuli Bunting the last 2 days. The other birds we have (pine siskins, chickadees, evening grosbeaks, collared doves etc sometimes spend the winter). The signs are showing that summer is coming to an end.
Pour a sip for summer.

Up until two weeks ago I was birding everyday, getting shots of the usual suspects in my area, but one day I went out and it was dead silent. Beautiful weather, no breeze, sunny, but absolutely zero bird-life. Ever since then, it's been silent, birds are staying in the brush/foliage and not showing themselves as much as earlier in the year. I haven't shot a decent bird photo since, and I've switched to macro photography instead. Since this is my first full year of birding, I haven't experienced the Autumn behavior yet, so am thinking this is a change in behavior in preparation for migration.
