Common Snipe...... I had 11 of these 5-6 metres from me today. I was beginning to wish I had a zoom lens instead of a prime, at one stage I couldn't focus on any of them, the limitations of my prime lens with regards to MFD with 1.4x TC was tested. It was difficult to move back as I was in a small hide with small window openings. Eventually the Snipes flew off to a clearing about 50 metres further out then that is when the prime came into it's use.

It'll be interesting to see what Canon does on the MFD on the new 600 DO for 2018; Then again, I'm debating jumping ship...

I was reading "The-digital-picture.com" review on the Canon EF 400mm f/4 DO IS II USM,.....it says the following.............

An area where Canon's super telephoto lenses have not delivered best-available focusing performance has been in their MFD (Minimum Focusing Distance) and the related MM (Maximum Magnification).

The MFD of the later 400 DO is 129.9" inches compared to the later 400mm f/2.8 which is 106.3".

lf the limitations of the DO lens is the MFD, then the current later 600mm f/4 being 177.2" it is likely the yet to come very expensive 600 DO could be around 220-240'.

These Amazing small short stocky birds are no more than 7-8 inches high. They can produce a "drumming" sound by vibrating their tail feathers that sounds something like a goat.
