Great photos!! Question though, what was the advantage of using such a slow shutter speed, was there not enough natural light?

I thought the same. The second image is sharp but the first one is just a little soft and I don't think it's a focusing issue.

Exif on Flickr says they were shot in Auto mode.. It must have been pretty dark with ISO 1000 2.8 and no flash..

Yes, ISO 1000. Must have been dark. This explains it. Pics are nice and sharp though. Love them!

We got a late start and the area had building blocking the good light.

I'm sorry if I came across a little strong. It's just the way flickr display's the information. It causes confusion needlessly.
