I have no doubt this guy is waaaaay better than me, and that the Lieca is awesome, I've seen plenty of Leica shots to know that, but reading the review, I wasn't blown away by any of the images, and, I much preferred his RAW files to his processed images. In fact there were only two pics I thought were OK, both pictures of the M10, which I assume were taken on something other than an M10......

I didn't say I liked his work only that i agreed with a lot of his review.

Wow, thank you for the in depth response. It is very much appreciated. I think I understand what you're saying. I would like to eventually get an M series, but like I said, probably an older model due to $$$. And I'll more than likely get those two lenses then, the 35 and 50. What models do you suggest? Zeiss? Leica? Elmarrit? Summicron? please excuse my spelling if it's wrong.

Zeiss are really nice (depending on which one) and a lot less expensive. I do prefer some of Leica's lenses over Zeiss because of the way the render. Others prefer Zeiss. You can also pick up some really nice older Leica lenses for a good price. I have a Zeiss 35 2.8 Biogon C that is a great lens and less than a grand. It's not a 35 1.4 Summilux but it's also not 5 grand either. I have a Leica 75 2.5 Summarit that is a great lens and it was around a grand.

There are a lot of options. Voigtlander is also an option.

Thanks, I'll have to do some more research on these brands then and find some affordable lenses. M series must be the one to go for then. So I'll have to look around and see if I can find a deal, even on a high mileage one.

Does Leica still provide service on used cameras? Like is there an option to buy a warranty for a used camera? i.e. I buy one off of someone here and then apply for a 3 year warranty or something? Is it necessary? Is the service charge pretty expensive?

You have to ask Leica on that one. I've heard that they are kinda pricey. The only camera repairs I have had were all paid for by Leica (sensor recall).

Did you buy new or used every time?

For Fuji, if you want the rangefinder feel have a look at the XPRO2, it has a good EVF as well as an OVF but it's not a true rangefinder focusing system. Fuji's glass is very good in general and also there is a lot of native choice covering most ranges. As a plus their manual focusing aids make adapting & using old lenses easy.

Fuji: X-PRO2, X-T1, X-E2 | 16/1.4, 18/2, 23/1.4, 35/1.4, 56/1.2, 90/2, 16-55/2.8, 10-24/4. AD600BM, TT865F, AL-H198, ThinkTank AS2, Peli1514, Ona Bowery, Matthews Grip

I bought my MM, M262 and now the M 10 new but I bought the M-E used with a one year Leica warranty.

I never liked shooting with fuji. Again if it were me I would get a used M9 or M-E before a fuji.

We should dance around old model, then. But in general, Leica seems to be unbeatable on how it understands the optics of lenses. As result, you could get not only old Leitz lens working on M8 and younger, but almost any RF (LTM and M) mount lens. Something as extreme as Jupiter-12 FSU 35 2.8 lens will works and it cost ... 45$ USD, plus 20$+ adapter. Even more, Industar-61 L/D 55 2.8 costs like 20$ USD and some are comparing it to Elmar 50 2.8 by results...
On Leitz side, basically all M lenses will do. As long as they are clean. It is major issue with old Leitz lenses. Fog and fungus. But anything from 50 Collapsible Cron and younger will do and anything from Summaron 35 2.8 and younger will do.
On modern side it doesn't have to be Zeiss. Same factory makes Voigtlander brand. Color Skopar 35 2.5 is always clean lens and it costs 250$ and more. On 50mm Zeiss ZM Planar is safest bet for modern lens and Voigtalnder 50 1.5 will do almost everything as good as Planar, plus sharp f1.5 with some purple fringing.

For old M Leica look for M-E. They are as young as 2015. It is absolutely the same as M9, just no (useless) frame lines switch. Clean ISO for color ends at 640. BW is film like between ISO1600 and 2500.
If you will need clean pictures indoors, you will need TTL Leica (Meitz with Leica TTL) flash.

So, for "old" digtial M like M9 and M-E, plus two clean, non Leica 35,50 lenses and little Leica TTL flash it will be around 4K$, used. Plus, at least one spare battery. Non-Leica 25$ works, but freeze from time to time. Made in same China, but Leica labeled battery is around 100$.

Be aware, what most likely, if going M route after 5D, L then first impression is going to be... "it sucks"... And it might take months before it will grow on you.

On top of it, Leica service is very expensive and slow comparing to Canon service. M9 are still in full service by Leica. M8 are not.

Nope, you didn't, and I didn't assume you did, I was just gobsmacked at, putting it bluntly, apparently poor quality pictures from a Leica, and a professional user to boot. I'm sure he went for this look on purpose, I can't understand why....

I think that is his style and some of that look done in PP. Apparently it is working for him.

The Leica M 10 is the finest FF or crop digital camera I have ever shot with period.

If he's like me nobody is giving him anything. My work pays for it all. The equipment, the mortgage, the car payments, the insurance, food, everything....

If I remember from the article, it said he's been given it? Maybe I got that wrong...
