Really excellent series!
I tried this with poor results. Used a M original camera with the 100-400L II. Even with 9 stops of ND filters and a polarizer stacked I could not control the light levels. Was at 1/4000s, ISO 100, F22 and still too much light.

Can I ask what your camera settings and filters used were?
Only a partial eclipse here. On my 6D i had the SS at 1/4000, F22, ISO 100 and was flooded out with light. I did not have the proper solar filter and was using multiple stacked ND filters.
Thanks!

This post: http://photography-on-the.net ...showthread.php?p=18435088 and the two following it show the metadata for the shots I took.

I used a Thousand Oaks 77mm Solar Filter for the 100-400 II. I took the filter off about 15 seconds before totality to get the Diamond Ring, Baily's Beads, and the corona. The solar filter went back on about 15 seconds after the end of totality.

I didn't have any experience with eclipses, and the information I gathered about settings didn't match up very well. So I bracketed all of the shots to ensure I had several to choose from at each stage of the eclipse.

Really cool!

Seems like maybe there is a way you could combine all those exposures into one single shot while preserving details, that way if you have one that had a longer overall exposure, then you could have those bead things as well as the corona. I failed to bracket as I was in "WTF wow" mode that entire 2 mins, so just ended up with the corona.

The girl next to me was in tears, the whole thing was just completely insane! It's funny talking to those that were in totality vs those that were not. Completely different conversations!

By the way: Some big solar flares as of late, so we should have some aurora action headed our way

Well on the bright side you got to see something profound! And we'll have another in 2024, so get your solar filter order in early!

I got one called a Marumi DHG ND 100000; fine for the camera, not fine to look through with your eyes. Amazon had sent me a warning a few days before the eclipse about it. Ended up working just fine, just the warning was unclear.

This RT Hawk was perched in an apple tree on Maple Creek southeast of Florence, Oregon......it didn't seem to appreciate my presence and took off.
