He everyone

Here is another edit I'm working on my friends beautiful daughter. I'm still very green at editing, learning something new every day. Anyhoo, this is my latest attempt. Any thoughts and suggestions on what may be right or wrong would be greatly appreciated.

It's a 400% improvement to me, but there's a tiny bit too much red in the image.

Do you mean too much red in her skin tone ...or ...too much red as in the background as well as the chair. Thank you for your comments.:-)

It's overall red compared to the 1st one. Either remove it from the skin & hair, or overall. Doesn't matter to me, except that overall might be easier for you unless you understand how Masks work.

My favorite to modify just parts of an image are Adjustment Layers for local changes to color & density. (external link)

I took the warmth out of her hair and skin using NIK collection. Just the small changes look so much more pleasing. I'll post it when I'm done playing :-)

For the kind of portrait you are doing here keep your editing to a minimum. She's lovely, just do a minimal amount of cleanup and smoothing. Trying to find magic in post is a bit of a fools errand and all the presets and effects are largely unnecessary. Focus on better lighting going forward.

OK thank you for your comment. I know as a newbie I need to be careful not to go crazy with editing as its easy to over do everything

I'm wondering why the left arm is OOF

I see that now...I need to lighten the shoulder sleeve so it doesn't look so odd. God I cannot get the skin tone right, no matter what I try. Too red n driving me mad!

Thank goodness for youtube. Enter the world of levels and curves and my skin tone problem is solved. Will post the finalized pic when done
