My first camera was a Sony A200 which I loved at the time. I then upgraded to a Canon 7D which I loved but after a while it became to big and heavy and I could never bother to take it out with me so I sold that and purchased a Sony Nex 6 which I currently have and am not too fond of. I use mostly a 50mm f1.8 lens. I looked at buying a new lens but they are just out of my price range. I really want to upgrade back to a DSLR but don't know what to get. I had my heart set on a 6D but am thinking perhaps I should get a cheap camera with better lenses. I will be using it mostly for family snaps at home and want to be able to make my subject pop. I've attached an example of the pics I like to take of my daughter. The only feature I care for is WIFI to easily move the pics onto my iPhone and to be able to get nice blurry backgrounds.
My budget is around $1500-$2000(Australian). Would it make sense to get something as cheap as a Canon 200d with a 135 f2?

I got an EOS 80D with 18-135 USM lens for AU$1699 at JBs when they had a 15% discount period, which they do regularly. Very happy with it. For portraits, Cambuy have the 50mm f/1.8 STM (which I have and like) for AU$155. Also 24mm f/2.8 STM, very sharp and great for landscapes, is AU$209 at Cambuy. Even cheaper if you go grey market. Or if size is an issue the 200D sounds good--same sensor as 80D. Both do wifi, NFC etc.

If you want to go MalVeauX's route, google 5D gumtree. There's one with the old 50mm f/1.8 II for AU$449.

If Australia is always sunny, 20D like nicelly build and old DSLRs will do.
And 1.6 crop factor with 135L will limit it to the farm living spaces.

6D with latest 50 1.8 will allow you to take shots indoors and during the sunset (gold hour, good for popping out portraits). Getting close to kids with 50mm lens on FF camera is more natural then with 50mm on the crop body. You are in close contact with kid and with kid in the middle and close the image will pop out. Some distortions, but it isn't big deal.

As cost effective alternative here is Fuji X-A3 kit with WiFi and portraits enhancer.

Honestly, you should be able to take pictures that are very good with your Nex 6 and 50 1.8. Judging from the photo you posted, you may need to practice your focusing technique.

Looking at first picture You need more experience and changing body will do nothing to You.
You are using f 1.8 at 1/2000 which make no sense. Nex 6 is very good camera in good hands .
You should buy 20/2.8 or 35 1.8 OSS. And try first P mode with AF-S and one central AF point or
try Eye AF. Then play with Av mode.
