I'm a new 6D owner. I used it to take some sunrise photos over this past weekend and an odd thing happened. I was on a tripod using the 16-35 f/2 IS and a shutter release. Everything was going fine and suddenly, the camera wouldn't take a photo... I hadn't changed any settings, though the sun had just appeared over the horizon. I didn't hit the 1/4000 limit or anything. I missed a series of shots.. and it started taking photos again.

I can't seem to figure out what I did wrong.. or what changed to prevent the shots. Any ideas? Btw, I did change to live view to see if that made a difference.. still wouldn't take a photo. Later in the sunrise sequence, both live view and viewfinder photos started working again.

Edit: I doubt there is a problem with the camera itself. I'm sure this is user error.... I just can't figure it out for the life of me.

I seem to have slightly miss read this. I use back button focus and usually AV. I find the camera holds its focus unless I tell it to change. So for sunsets, I would just focus on where I want, then check it is still in focus for subsequent shots or refocus somewhere else.

That sounds like a plan. I use bbf for my other two cameras but I'm usually photographing birds. I know the 1D IV pretty well, having had one for a couple years now. The 6Dc? not so much.

I get a bit confused with bbf and using a shutter release. If I focus with the back button... release it... things stay in focus when I push the shutter release to take the photograph?
