Thanks to the faithful who posted this week....:-P

Winners are:
1st Place: Jim Askew. I love the whole scene here and the birds along with kids playing at the water's edge, the sunset & surfers. Nice!

2nd Place: teekay; Lovely colors on the ducks. I like Duck the duck.

3rd Place: Carolyn. Awwww, so cute! I hope the little guy survived okay. Nice close-up.

Challenge #656- BIRDS
_______________

Description of this week's topic:
One of my favorite forums here is the Bird forum...I must say I am envious of most of the shots folks post and their long lenses, too.;-)a But I am not going to compare your entries to theirs and I am not going to be very picky about what kind of bird it is or what venue of bird it is. Have fun & I hope a great big hawk lands on your fence or porch railing this week.:lol::lol:

Congratulations, Jim, and thanks for the coveted #2 spot, Maureen.:-)

Not surprised there weren't many entries. I've taken many bird photos myself but always with cameras with longer lenses and good EVFs. So it was a really interesting challenge to take my G15 out for an hour to see if I could get close enough to any birds to get a worthwhile shot.

With limited time, my shot of the mallard couple's log being encroached upon by another male was the only one that had any action. I did manage these two close-ups - a ring-billed gull and a lowly pigeon - but didn't think they were very interesting.

I have taken only a few bird shots with my Pro 1 as well.......the camera is a bit too slow and has limited reach. This guy was sitting above my car in a parking lot & I happened to have my cmera in the car.

Congratulations to teekay and Carolyn; and thanks for the first place nod, Maureen. I agree that bird photography is a narrow field usually calling for long lenses. My shot was made at Venice Beach, CA just as the sun was setting. I was trying to catch the beautiful colors in the sun lit waves and the birds were a welcome bonus :-)

Here is my alternative "bird" capture photo for the contest...I was going to title it "What Are You Looking At?" :-) But in the end I liked the beach shot better.

Nice shot, Jim. Kudos.

Only archived bird image I have from my G7x is a chicken and it isn't very inspiring. My camera is still out on loan, so I couldn't go grab a new shot.

Congratulations Jim and Teekay, both great shots and thanks for hosting and judging Maureen.
Our wee fledgling was named Pip by my eldest. She found him in the forest next to the cabin we were staying in and was very anxious for the evening watching to make sure that he was ok. He was so tame he hopped onto Gus' finger so they put him up in a branch so he was off the forest floor. We found the nest in the wood store the next day and had an entertaining few days watching them learning to fly and becoming more confident with each attempt.

^^^^^ Yeah, some of this.
I've tried various bird photos over time. If I'm not tripod'd, I'm just not very good holding the G9 for tele shots. I've got the 2x Tele adapter, but for me that sometimes just adds to the challenge for shutter speed, lag, and shake.

I did not consider the (very nice) scenic type of shot such as Jim Askew's entry.
Cheers!
