This epitomises a British summer day, Jeff. Trouble is that we have not had many of them this year!

Love it :-)

Tufas at Lake Winnemucca

The structures in the foreground are tufas. They are formed when hot water percolates up from geyers deep in the ground leaving mineral deposits. They can also be found at Mono lake. This is the South end of Lake Winnemucca. The lake dried out in the 1930's due to construction projects.

It seems oddly dark on the sides... did you do that in post?

Partially. My polarizer did some of it, and some vignette was added. The more I look at it the more I think that it definitely needs to be pulled back a bit.

The mesas of the Blaine Escarpment, a byproduct of the many rivers and seas that used to cover this part of the state, rise above the flat prairie of Northwest Oklahoma capped with gypsum rich in selenite crystals that gave them the name Gloss Mountains. Drove out there before sunrise and got there before the park caretaker got there to open the gate into the park and enjoyed having the entire place to myself. After leaving the park I drove along a dirt road that wound its way through the mesas and was able to get a few more photos.

These are some of my absolute favorite landscape shots of 2017. Colorado gave me some amazing views this year.

Dallas Divide. Aspen leaves actually sort of dull in this part of the state, most of the color in these shots is from the scrub oak.
