They say
"Mangin was able to capture some stunning photos that would have been difficult to capture with a traditional DSLR."

Software can do alot of things, but software can also run on DLSRs and raw converters too if need be. I also don't consider those to be stunning, just sounds like a typical marketing fluff to me.

I guess I'm missing the part where the photos too difficult for a dSLR were captured. All I see are some pretty straight forward mug shots.Looks more like photos taken at a drivers license facility. Is there some link I have to click on to get to the complicated ones?

Yeah, I can't understand their claim that it would be difficult to capture the same thing with a DSLR.

Unless they try to compare SOOC (from a iphone 8+) to an un-processed raw image from a DSLR.

That would be apples to oranges.

Ha

I think they're promoting the new apple portrait mode that does all kinds of cool stuff.

There a link at the bottom the the Apple new release

To get the black background look, the only small complication is to have an off-camera flash triggered with your DSLR, for the best look. The rest seems academic from a DSLR. The software is really just doing a better job of post-processing than what many others know how to do manually with LR or PS.

I agree.

My iphone 7 plus has a feature in Portrait mode that prompts me to "move further away" to get better DOF.
Looks like they've been working on their software to get more people to use iphone rather than a P&S

Not quite the same, but then again, I just rushed through this in my basement before she wanted to get back upstairs. Brightly lit, but a close flash and about 6 filters between exposure and 3 runs of brightness/contrast.

Seriously ? I doubt any self respecting DSLR would be guilty of taking photos that bad. Stunning, yes, because I'm stunned that they thought the images were great. But, hey, no accounting for taste :p

Haha! Total fluff. Not even worth arguing about or even reading frankly. Might as well market that it was used to film something by Michael Bay while we're at it.

Very best,

Seems they missed a few words off their headline
"PGA Tour Hired Photographer to Shoot Portraits of Presidents Cup on iPhone 8 Plus after Apple paid them to do so."

Average photos that would certainly not have been a challenge for any DSLR.
